UPDATED: Rite-Aid, 11/28-12/4

I was pretty exhausted while doing this shop today.  I stayed up way too late last night to get all of our stuff unpacked and put away after our week-long vacation to Utah.  We really didn't plan on returning last night.  We set out on Saturday fully expecting that we would be home by nightfall.  We hit another blizzard in Winnemucca, NV at around 6:00pm so we had to spend the night in a hotel.

After I unpacked everything I realized that I hadn't planned for my shop so I decided to stay up and gather all of my coupons.  I kept finding good deals so I continued to clip and clip and clip.  Well, let's just say that I didn't hit my pillow until very late.  I'll sleep really, really well tonight.

I wanted to make sure that I did a shop today because I really wanted to throw in the two play tents for the girls.  I love play tents and I thought that they would have fun connecting them together to build their own little fort.  They might even like to sleep in them tonight.  That makes me smile.

I'm still thanking the Lord that little Sydney fell asleep in the double stroller as I was shopping; I really didn't think that she would last and then I looked down and saw her sleeping and I prayed a prayer of thanksgiving for God's goodness to me today especially since I am so tired.  Savannah happily sat in the stroller and watched cartoons on the iTouch.  These are the little strategies that I employ while shopping with my small children.  I also bring plenty of juice (a special treat in our house) and lots of goldfish.  If you have any special tips that you employ to keep your children occupied please share them in the comments.  I'm sure we would all love to hear them!

Ok, here's the shop:

Unpacking.....

Just returned from our vacation to Park City, UT.  I did a very small shop on the way home today while driving through Truckee, CA but I will have to do my BIG shop sometime tomorrow.

We had a wonderful time and I'll try and post some photos with my shop tomorrow.  I think I am in love with Park City now.  Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.  Looking forward to hearing from all of you.

Special mention:  Thank you for the call to wish us a safe trip Webster-mom.  It made us smile to hear from you and we felt so loved!  Hope to return your call sometime this week after we get settled back into our routine.

Special mention #2:  To my good girlfriend at GBC (and you know who you are).....there is a $5/1 Nexxus coupon in the weekly ad this week and there are $2/1 coupons in the flu booklet.  If you use a $5/25 Q and throw in some Nexxus I'm sure you'll get a good deal.  The Color Ensure Shampoo is $15.99.  If you buy two your scenario will look like this:

2 Color Ensure Nexxus @ $15.99 ea.
- Two $5/1 Nexxus in-ad Q
- Two $2/1 Nexxus Q from flu booklet
- $5/25 Rite-Aid Q
= $6.49 ea.  (not bad)!

PS - I have eight of the $2/1 Nexxus Q's from the flu booklet if you would like them.  Just send me an email and I will put them in the mail to you.

Special mention #3  To my other good friend at GBC (and YOU know who YOU are).....the no-nonsense is going to be B1G1 this week.  If you still have the coupons that I gave you then you can do the following scenario:

18 pairs of No Nonsense at $2.79 ea. (B1G1 FREE) = $25.11
- use 18 (or as many as you have) of the $1/1 No Nonsense Q's that I gave you from the flu booklets
- use $1.50/1 No Nonsense Rite-Aid VV printable
- use $5/25 Rite Aid Q
= A very good deal (depending on what coupons you have left).  Could be totally free if you have several of the $1/1 flu booklet Q's.

NOTE: One of the managers at the Rite-Aid in Park City, UT would not allow me to use my last two $5/25 printables.  He informed me that he was told that they were not allowed to accept them.  I asked him to allow me to use them as I had already spent time putting together my shop but he would not let me.  I told him that I would call corporate to verify and then have corporate contact him.  I would have called corporate from the store but I left my cell phone at our hotel.  I will contact corporate tomorrow as I have heard a very different story from corporate and from the coupon blogs/forums.  I will update this post when I talk to corporate.  For now, you should continue to use your $5/25 at your local stores until corporate communicates with us that there has been a change.  I just don't trust the information that the stores give us as there information is often incorrect; there is a lot of miscommunication between the Rite-Aid staff and it's customers.  It is better to just contact corporate for a straight answer and then have them call your store to inform them of the correct policy.  If they are continuing to allow the $5/25 Q then I will have to travel back to the Rite-Aid to get my $10 back. UPDATE 11/29: Still haven't had a chance to call.  Hope to call corporate sometime this week.

NOTE: I will get back $4.99 for the Got2b which puts my balance at about $1.00 for everything.  I'm still loving Rite-Aid these days.  BTW, got2b is owned by schwarzkopf which makes my favorite hair color products.  My stylist Charity turned me on to their products.  I wonder what she thinks of their got2b line (inquiring minds want to know Charity).   I still miss you Charity.  :)

NOTE: For some "bizzaro" reason one of my candy bar UP's didn't print.  I also noticed that 3 of my butterfinger bars rang up at .69 cents instead of .50 cents (even though one of them rang up at the correct price of .50 cents).  A little Twilight Zone action in honor of the Thanksgiving weekend (you Californians should know what I'm talkin' bout).  LOL.  UPDATE: I just looked at my picture and noticed that 3 of the butterfingers say $.69 cents in big red print on the candy bar.  I wonder if someone mixed the larger size candy bar in with the smaller ones and that is why they didn't ring up at the right price.  Strange.

NOTE: I gave the cashier one of the Carmex lip balms.

NOTE: Those of you that have been following my blog for awhile will rejoice with me over the Rice Krispies purchase.  You may well remember my failed homemade marshmallow batch of rice krispie treats earlier this year.  Never again.  I've learned my lesson.  I purchased store-bought marshmallows to make my next batch.

I made the mistake of making a batch before we left for vacation with a somewhat stale box of Rice Krispies.  Let me assure you that this was also a failure.  My new recipe is as follows:

1.  brand new box of Rice Krispies
1.  store-bought bag of marshmallows (not the generic)
= SUCCESS

Do not attempt to make rice krispie treats with anything other than the above.  Trust me.

Rite-Aid, 11/21-11/28

This is what awaited me at the end of my shop!
Savannah posing for mommy on our balcony!

Post-shop food to power the brain cells; fish tacos!

Sweet little Sydney enjoying her chips!

6 foot long icicles.  Beautiful!

We are on vacation this week in Park City, UT.  I debated whether or not to go out and do a shop this week while I was on vacation but I just couldn't resist the FREE Sonicare Essence (after Rite-Aid rebate and mail-in rebate) and the Planters Nutrition nuts.  We have a really old Sonicare model from 1998 and I was super excited to trade in that model for this newer one.

I almost didn't make it to Rite-Aid this morning though because we had a huge snowstorm last night and the roads are steeped in snow (Park City received almost 2 feet of snow).  My sweet husband decided that we needed that Sonicare and he really wanted me to get my shop in because he knew that I had already prepared for it.  It really helps to have a supportive husband when it comes to couponing.  I went to yelp.com and found a Rite-Aid about 3 miles from our resort.  Awesome!

This is just a small shop as I really didn't want to spend my vacation in a store.  :)  There are a few other good deals out there.  Just go to Southernsavers.com if you need help with the rest of the items that are on sale.

- All of my values below assume that you are using the highest dollar value coupon listed

NOTE: I just noticed while inputting the details for this shop that the $.40/1 Palmolive coupon is just for the 20oz. or larger size so it shouldn't be used on this 10oz. size.

NOTE: The Planters Nutrition Antioxidant mix did not ring up on sale for some reason even though the other Nutrition mixes all rang up on sale.  Just an FYI...

NOTE: The sled in the photo was just for effect.  LOL.

NOTE: I just looked on the Essence Sonicare box and the model number is HX5351/46; the SCR Rebate is for the 5300TB model.  I couldn't find this model at Rite-Aid.  Did anyone else have this problem?  Not sure what to do.  I submitted my receipts online and will see if Rite-Aid reimburses me $20 for the toothbrush and THEN I will open the box and clip the UPC for the mail-in-rebate.  Please report back here if you contact Rite-Aid about this issue or if you read something on another blog.  Let us know if you have an answer to this dilema in the comments section.  Thanks! UPDATE: Just looked at my receipt and it says that I purchased the 5300TB model so I guess I'm covered.  I'll report back here after the SCR rebate is approved. UPDATE: The SCR rebate is showing up correctly in my online account so go ahead with your purchase.

NOTE: Just noticed that I bought the wrong disinfecting wipes.  I purchased the clorox wipes and used the Lysol coupons.  :(  I'm pretty sure that the last time I checked the Lysol wipes they were about the same price so you can still do this deal; just make sure you pick up the correct wipes.  LOL.  BTW, this happens to me occasionaly (buying the wrong item).....especially when the product packaging looks the same.  I promise it will happen to you too if it hasn't already.

NOTE: I will receive back $30 in rebates for the Sonicare which means that the entire shop was a $17.69 moneymaker.  That's a pretty awesome deal!

RITE-AID STOCKPILE: Quick and Easy Pumpkin Pie Bars

...throw out the pumpkin pie this year....

I married my husband about 12 years ago.  During our engagement a good friend of mine named Rene Bourgeois gave me a cookbook that has since become dog-eared from so much use.  It was called, "Heartland Baking."  I'm not certain that the book is in print any longer, however, I have been able to find numerous copies on ebay, half.com,  and amazon.

Why is this cookbook so amazing?

Well, let's just say that every single thing that I have ever baked from this cookbook has made me want to give up all of the other food groups on the pyramid.  I just want to sit at the top of the pyramid and eat from the "sparingly" pinnacle.  I have been baking from the cookbook for 12 years now and there is not a bad recipe in the bunch.  You could call it the "cook's illustrated" of midwest baking.  Seriously.

If you shopped at Rite-Aid this week and purchased some canned pumpkin and evaporated milk then all you really need to complete the magic circle of pumpkin pie bars is yellow cake mix.  You should have the rest of the staples in your pantry.  I highly recommend that you make your own whipped cream.  Just whip some up and add a little vanilla and sugar to taste and you've got something really happy going on in your house this Thanksgiving.

PS - no candles were harmed in the creation of the pumpkin aroma that filled my house after baking these beauties.

1 package 2-layer-size yellow cake mix
1/2 c butter, melted and cooled
3 eggs
1 15 oz. can pumpkin
1 5 oz can (or 2/3 c) evaporated milk
1/2 c packed brown sugar
2 T sugar
2 T butter, softened
Whipped cream
Pumpkin pie spice, as follows:
1 T cinnamon
1 t ginger
1/4 t cloves
1/4 t nutmeg

1.  Combine dry cake mix, melted butter, and ONE egg. Beat until combined. SET ASIDE ONE CUP of the cake-mix mixture.

2.  Spread remaining cake-mix mixture in an ungreased 13x9x2 baking pan. Press to form an even crust.

3.  In a medium mixing bowl, beat together the remaining eggs, the pumpkin, evaporated milk, brown sugar, and 2 1/2 teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice. Pour pumpkin mixture over the crust in prepared pan.

4.  Combine the reserved cake mix mixture, the sugar, the 2 T softened butter and the cinnamon. Dot evenly over the pumpkin mixture. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes or till a wooden toothpick inserted neart the center comes out clean.

5.  Cool in pan on wire rack. Cut into triangles or squares. Serve with whipped cream with pumpkin pie spice whipped in or sprinkled on top.

UPDATED AGAIN: Rite-Aid, 11/14-11/20

Well, shopping at Rite-Aid is starting to feel like "shopping at Publix."  Maybe I should change the name of my blog back to I LOVE PUBLIX because that is how my Rite-Aid shops are making me feel these days.  I had a fantastic shop today and I found everything that I needed; had to go to two different Rite-Aid's but that's what you have to do when you are stocking up on the things that you need.  If your store is out of stock for an item then don't forget to get your rainchecks.  I had to get one for the Libby Pumpkin because the first store that I went to didn't have any in stock.  Who knows.....maybe there will be a better coupon to use with that raincheck next week!

UPDATE: Made a quick 10-minute trip to Rite-Aid tonight to get some Drano for the clogged tub.  Lori at dixieclip.com had a great scenario on her website for the Secret and Olay bath bars and I just couldn't resist.  Thank you so much Lori!  I also decided to pick up some more vitamins as I love the NatureMade Multi-vitamins for "Him" and "Her."  We are headed to the mountains this week for Thanksgiving.  We are going to spend time playing in the snow and the children wanted some cocoa so I picked up some Swiss Miss with my overage on the Secret/Olay deal.  I also decided that I love L'Oreal's lipstick.  I tried out a few shades this morning from my shop on Sunday and went back tonight to purchase the same shades as they are terrific!  I have my shop planned for next week and have already scoped out the Rite-Aid in Utah that will be closest to our destination spot.  I hope to have a picture and the details up on Sunday or Monday.  :)

UPDATE: Made another quick trip to pick up some more make-up.  Fell in love with the Almay eye shadows.  Really terrific eyeshadows with custom colors for your exact eye-color.

NOTE: I didn't actually buy 10 Libby pumpkins (they didn't have 10 in stock when I got to the store) but I wanted to show you this scenario as it is a great one.  I substituted 4 pantry condensed soups (either mushroom or chicken) for the pumpkin as they were also allowed in the UP Reward deal.  I did get a raincheck for the Libby Pumpkin so that I could buy some more and then I went to ebay and ordered 20 of the $1/2 libby fruit coupons.  I'll go back and have my store order me 20 cans and get all 20 of them for $2.00 (a terrific deal).  I'll have to share my recipe for pumpkin bars in a few days as they call for canned pumpkin and evaporated milk.  :)

NOTE: I reached the 500 point level with my welness card which means I now get 10% off of regular priced items.  My posts are going to start reflecting this so keep an eye on the details as you read my shop.

NOTE: There is an SCR rebate for the Revlon tool.  $3 Rebate wyb $10 in Revlon tools.  that brings my final balance to $28.51.

NOTE: Ok, my head is spinning a little with inputting the details of this shop.  I think it is much more difficult to break down your scenarios with all of these UP Reward deals (i.e. buy $10 in product and get $4 UP reward).  I'm an advanced couponer and even I am a little confused by my scenarios above.  If you're one of the RCG, CBC or GBC folks and you're confused then just give me a call.  I'll try and walk you threw one of the above scenarios if you need help (especially if there is a product that you really want to get).

UPDATE: Rite-Aid, Monday 11/8/10, Saturday 11/13/10

I was out of town this weekend but managed to fit in a few shops when I arrived back in town.  I planned these shops about a week ago and my pre-planning really paid off.  You can access the ad for Rite-Aid on iheartriteaid.com.  The ad is posted 2-3 weeks early for your convenience.

UPDATE: Just returned from a second shop @ Rite-Aid this week.  I can't believe how many extra deals I find after looking at the ad again!  I won't be inputting the details of the second shop since it is late in the day on Saturday and many of you will have already done your shopping at Rite-Aid this week.  If you want specifics on a particular item leave a comment and I will try and leave you the details if you are still planning on going shopping today (Saturday).

UPDATE: Went out for a 3rd shop to get some Kleenex since it was such a good deal.  Purchased 22 boxes for about $5.00.  Awesome!

NOTE: (for more coupon combinations please go to Southernsavers.com).

NOTE: I ran out of gift cards so I had to pay some money out of pocket; most of my balance was tax.  Haven't figured out a way to get my stuff entirely free from Rite-Aid since you have to pay tax and the UP Rewards will not apply to tax.  I plan on taking my next rebate check and cashing it and buying a Rite-Aid gift card so that I don't have to pay for my tax on my next transactions.

NOTE: The Skittles were purchased to support my new habit which formed at Halloween.

NOTE: I found another $3/1 Neutrogena coupon in one of my other All You Magazines but can't remember which issue.  Just check all of your back issues for the last 4 months or so.
